A busy John is a happy John

My fifth grade teacher (and sometimes reader of this blog) always said that, and today was certainly busy enough.

I got up at 7:30, taught at 8:30, 10:40, 11:40, 1:20, and 2:20, then went out to help administer a student life survey on the computers (man, some of them are not good with those things) for all the students, then off to two hours of basketball practice in the grueling Bangladeshi heat and humidity, then back home where after a shower I had to cook then eat then do the dishes before I went back to school and proceeded to grade homework for an hour then plan lessons for an hour (somehow I got roped into giving a 20-minute presentation on Art History to some class) and back home to have to write this all down.

So I guess I’m happy.

(It’s kind of sad when it turns out I’ve already written this post.)

I was grumpy at practice, yelling at girls, calling them lazy, terrible, then making them run every time they passed the ball without looking. I was up late last night, socializin’, reading about health care getting passed. Teaching was a bit of a drag today. I found myself yawning. Then to have to go play basketball with a bunch of just over teenage age girls, in the heat. We did get to our new court. I arranged a deal with a grade school, but it turns out their court is a little substandard. It’s about 60 feet long; the backboards are mettle, and you have to line your out-of-bounds with chalk from a broken brick. At least its a court of our own.

But, it’s all kept me busy, and happy, too, I guess. It’s hard to tell when you’re this tired.
